ABOUT BEER EXPLAINS!

"BEER EXPLAINS! A Bar Therapy" is an original audiovisual production in the format of a documentary series. An unprecedented entertainment program, hosted by two women – a beer expert and a great enthusiast – who travel through different cities, exploring their vocations and experiencing unusual cultural, tourist and gastronomic itineraries. Beer connecting people and proposing topics in a manner you have never seen before.

Beer is an ancient drink – one of the oldest and most popular in the history of humanity – and presents more than 150 different styles that can be enjoyed in surprising gastronomic pairings. Even so, there are strong stigmas associated with beers. From the alcoholic beverage consumed enormously, made by men for men, to the limitations in gastronomy. It is time to deconstruct these stigmas, encouraging inclusion and inviting people to consume beer healthily and intelligently.

Each episode features a city and a guest. In a relaxed "bar therapy" atmosphere, we learn about the history, personality traits and gastronomic preferences of the guest. Based on this context, the expert presents a beer style to reveal as her translation in liquid form.

Watch the episodes and have fun learning about the vast culture of beers and its philosophical contours.

EP 01 Várzea Paulista - SP

WITCHES, SAINTS, AND BREWERS

Our beer expert Cilene Saorin and our beer enthusiast Laíza Dantas arrive in Várzea Paulista to prove that it was women who pioneered beer production and, for that reason, were sidelined and burned at the stake throughout history. At Marta's bar, in front of a soccer field, along with our guest and women's soccer coach Gerlândia de Oliveira, the girls roll the ball around bringing witches, saints and brewers into the game. It feels like the final episode, but this is just the beginning of the season!

WHY DO WE DRINK?

We arrive in Ribeirão Preto – the city that was once the coffee capital, the draft beer capital, and currently can be considered a pioneer of craft beer in the State of São Paulo. In a city almost more enthusiastic about beer than our presenter Laíza Dantas, we will understand why humanity has such an appreciation for the act of drinking, helping individuals and cultures to survive, evolve, and sing emotionally in karaoke! In the mansion of Palacete 1922, amidst hints of philosophy, heightened sensitivity, and elegant sips of beer, we talk with our guest and teacher Gleice Priscila dos Santos.

ALCOHOLIC EXCHANGES

Beach lover Laíza Dantas takes master brewer Cilene Saorin for a dive into the beaches of São Sebastião: the oldest city on the north coast of São Paulo. In this atmosphere of breeze, sea, feet in the sand and a beer in hand, they talk about the first alcoholic exchanges that took place on this continent. On one side, the indigenous peoples and the Cauinagens (process of producing the fermented food-drink made from cassava called Cauim). On the other side, the alcoholic combo of the Portuguese colonizers: wine and beer, also foods. At Manacá Restaurant, we talk with our guest, teacher and activist Camila Aquino dos Santos, to understand how the exploitation of the territory influences life in this region.
